Relationship Specialists – Ken Waldman, Ph.D., and Karen Waldman, Ph.D.

Married 28 years, we have four wonderful children and seven fabulous grandchildren.  We have both worked in the Houston area since 1987 and are happy to finally be working together in the same private practice, located on the SW Freeway at Gessner.

Between us, our areas of specialization include all types of relationship and couples counseling, marital and individual therapy, professional consultation, Veterans’ issues, geriatric and aging concerns, and many areas under the umbrella of behavioral health (stress and pain management, smoking cessation, weight loss, caregiving, coping with a chronic illness or disability, etc.).  We know that when people seek counseling or psychotherapy, they are often stuck, hurting, or in crisis and—understandably—want to feel better immediately.  Our shared goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of our clients, beginning with the very first session.  We give you the tools and skills you need to feel hopeful, stronger, and empowered.  We both use brief therapy models and take pride in being able to facilitate meaningful, lasting change in a relatively short time.

Please note that Drs. Ken and Karen Waldman are also available to work together as co-therapists, a unique approach that some couples may find especially helpful. (Appointments can be arranged by the hour or for an intensive, all-day session.)

Self-Help for Couples

Before the end of 2014, we are hoping to publish a book (entitled Worth Fighting For:  Self-Help for Couples).  Ken has written the initial draft; Karen is currently editing it and adding pearls of her own.  We are looking forward to announcing when it is hot off the press and available for purchase.   In addition, we have designed an instrument, Waldman and Waldman’s Survey for Couples (© 1991), which we often give to clients to help them use power struggles as opportunities for intimacy.
